The Society’s Chairman son Paramount Prince, winner of the historic King’s Plate, was crowned Sovereign Award Champion 3-Year-Old Male and Shannondoe Farm bred Lucky Score was named Champion Turf Male at the annual Sovereign Awards ceremony on April 18.

Paramount Prince, a son of Shannondoe Farm’s top stallion Society’s Chairman, received 144 votes, more than double the tally for runner up Patches O’Houlihan. He is owned by Gary Barber and Michael J. Langlois and was bred by Ericka Nadine Rusnak. Trainer Mark Casse, now a 16X Sovereign Award honoree, guided Paramount Prince though his championship season.

Prior to his impressive wire-to-wire victory in the King’s Plate, Paramount Prince was a dominant victor of the Plate Trial, drawing off by 5 lengths. His season also included black type runs in the Queenston Stakes and the Prince of Wales Stakes.

Paramount Prince is the second Sovereign Award Champion sired by Society’s Chairman after 2016 Horse of the Year and Champion 3YO Filly Caren. He seems poised for another strong campaign in 2024 after a sensational seasonal debut victory at Gulfstream Park in early March.

It was an especially good night for the Shannondoe Farm family with Lucky Score taking home honors for Champion Male Turf Horse. The son of Lookin At Lucky was bred by Shannondoe principals Arika Everatt-Meeuse and her parents, James and Janeane Everatt.

Lucky Score was remarkably consistent in 2023, winning the Highlander S. (G2) in early July and placing in four subsequent Graded Stakes, including the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. His campaign landed him in the starting gate against the world’s best in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

Lucky Score is the 4th Sovereign Award Champion bred by the Everatts following 2016 Horse of the Year/Champion 3YO Filly Caren, millionaire Sand Cove (2010 Older Male) and Terremoto (1998 Older Male).
