Conquest Curlinate is by Smart Strike’s best son Curlin out of a mare by Canadian Horse of the Year Peaks and Valleys, a grandson of Blushing Groom. The good sires Candy Ride, Carson City and Broken Vow are all bred on versions of the Mr. Prospector/Blushing Groom cross and the latter is out of a mare closely related to Peaks and Valleys.

Curlin is an example of the success of the Smart Strike/Deputy Minister cross and he too is siring very good runners with this broodmare line. Curlin has sired six stakes winners out of mares returning Deputy Minister. Among those is the Grade 1 winners Keen Ice (dam by Awesome Again) and Curliana (dam by the Dehere son Graeme Hall) and 2019 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) hero Vino Rosso (2nd dam by Touch Gold). The Curlin son Palace Malice has also benefitted from this pattern – the second dam of his 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Structor is by Dehere.

Seattle Slew/A. P. Indy-line mares are very promising for Conquest Curlinate. Curlin has now sired sired three Grade 1 winners out of Seattle Slew-line dams: champion Stellar Wind (dam by Malibu Moon), Preakness S. winner Exaggerator (Vindication) and Mother Goose S. heroine Off the Tracks (Boston Harbor, by Capote). He’s also sired the Grade 2 winner Moulin de Mougin of a mare by the Seattle Slew son Avenue of Flags and G2 winner Tenfold out of a mare by the Pulpit son Tapit. Palace Malice also has an early stakes winner out of a mare by the A. P. Indy son Flatter.

Malibu Moon, Pulpit, Flatter and Tapit are among the many good sires bred on versions of the A. P. Indy/Mr. Prospector cross and Curlin and sons have sired nearly 30 total stakes winners and six Grade 1 winners out of mares that return the Mr. Prospector influence. Daughters and granddaughters of other stallions bred on the A. P. Indy/Mr. Prospector cross like Mineshaft, Congrats, Majestic Warrior, Girolamo and Bernardini can also be considered for Conquest Curlinate.

Smart Strike-line stallions have also done very well with mares from the Danzig broodmare line. The broader cross has produced over 40 stakes winners, including a pair of Breeders’ Cup champions – Good Magic (by Curlin out of a Hard Spun mare) and Battle of Midway (by Smart Strike out of a mare by Danzig grandson Concerto). Among the other broodmare sires represented in this sample are Ascot Knight, Belong to Me, DanehillDayjur, Langfhur, Foxhound, Pine Bluff and Polish Numbers. The Langfuhr sons Wando and Lawyer Ron can also be considered for Conquest Curlinate as can mares by the former Ontario stallion North Light, a son of Danehill.

Smart Strike over Storm Cat has produced over 40 stakes winners, 10 of them by Curlin. Three of those are out of direct Storm Cat mares and there is one each out of mares by Stormy Atlantic, Stormin Fever (both bred Storm Cat over Seattle Slew) and Tale of the Cat. The Storm Cat son Giant’s Causeway is the damsire of nine stakes winners by Smart Strike-line sires, including Curlin’s GSW King Zachary. Mares by the Ontario-based son Giant’s Causeway son Giant Gizmo are worth consideration for Conquest Curlinate. The daughters of another Ontario-based Storm Cat grandson, Old Forester (by Forestry), are as well.

Curlin’s multiple Grade 1 winner Palace Malice is out of a mare by the Nureyev grandson Royal Anthem, a son of Theatrical. Curlin has another listed winner out of a mare by Theatrical, who is also the damsire of Smart Strike’s champion son English Channel. Daughters of the Canadian-based Theatrical son Strut the Stage certainly merit consideration for Conquest Curlinate based on this evidence.

Curlin is the sire of multiple blacktype winner Stoppshoppingdebbie, out of a mare by Wild Again, the damsire of four other stakes winners by Smart Strike and sons. This puts mares by Wild Again’s Ontario-based son Milwaukee Brew in play for Conquest Curlinate.
