Conquest Curlinate is by Smart Strike’s best son Curlin out of a mare by Canadian Horse of the Year Peaks and Valleys, a grandson of Blushing Groom. The good sires Candy Ride, Carson City and Broken Vow are all bred on versions of the Mr. Prospector/Blushing Groom cross and the latter is out of a mare closely related to Peaks and Valleys.
Curlin is an example of the success of the Smart Strike/Deputy Minister cross yet he too is siring very good runners with this broodmare line. Curlin has sired four stakes winners out of Deputy Minister-line dams so far including the Grade 1 winners Keen Ice (dam by Awesome Again) and Curliana (dam by the Dehere son Graeme Hall). These four stakes winners are among the 26 inbred to Deputy Minister to date within four generations. Overall, the Smart Strike/Deputy Minister cross has yielded at least 19 stakes winners including a 2016 2yo stakes winner and the additional Grade 1 winners V. E. Day and Ralis.
Seattle Slew/A. P. Indy-line mares are very promising for Conquest Curlinate. Curlin has now sired sired three Grade 1 winners out of Seattle Slew-line dams: champion Stellar Wind (dam by Malibu Moon), Classic winner Exaggerator (Vindication) and 2016 Mother Goose S. heroine Off the Tracks (Boston Harbor, by Capote). He’s also sired the Grade 2 winner Moulin de Mougin of a mare by the Slew stallion Avenue of Flags.
Malibu Moon is one of the many good sires bred A. P. Indy over Mr. Prospector and Stellar Wind is among Curlin’s eight stakes winners and three Grade 1 winners out of mares that return that influence to the pedigree. Daughters and granddaughters of other stallions bred on this cross like Mineshaft, Congrats, Majestic Warrior, Pulpit, Tapit and Bernardini can also be considered for Conquest Curlinate.
Smart Strike-line stallions have also done very well with mares from the Danzig broodmare line. The larger cross has produced at least 26 stakes winners, three of them Grade 1 winners by Smart Strike: Lookin at Lucky (dam by Belong to Me), Shadow Cast (Dayjur), and Soaring Free (Danzig). Curlin is the sire of a quartet of stakes winners so far out mares by the Danzig sons Ascot Knight, Foxhound, Pine Bluff and Polish Numbers (2017 Holy Bull S. (G2) winner Irish War Cry). Daughters of Exchange Rate, War Front, Hard Spun, Langfhur and his sons Wando and Lawyer Ron should also be considered for Conquest Curlinate.
Smart Strike over Storm Cat has produced at least 21 stakes winners, five of them by Curlin. He’s sired three stakes winners out of direct Storm Cat mares and one each out of mares by Stormy Atlantic and Tale of the Cat. Giant’s Causeway is the damsire of one of these and mares by his Canadian-based son, Giant Gizmo, are worth consideration for Conquest Curlinate. The daughters of the Ontario-based Storm Cat grandson Old Forester are as well.
Curlin’s multiple Grade 1 winner Palace Malice is out of a mare by the Nureyev grandson Royal Anthem, a son of Theatrical. Curlin has another listed winner out of a mare by Theatrical, who is also the damsire of Smart Strike’s champion son English Channel. Daughters of the Canadian-based Theatrical son Strut the Stage certainly merit consideration for Conquest Curlinate based on this evidence.
Curlin is the sire of four-time blacktype winner Stoppshoppingdebbie, out of a mare by Wild Again, the damsire of four other stakes winners by Smart Strike and sons. This puts mares by Wild Again’s Ontario-based son Milwaukee Brew in play for Conquest Curlinate.
