The Jockey Club of Canada has announced the finalists for the 2018 Sovereign Awards honoring Canada’s champions and recognizing their outstanding achievements.

Among the finalists is the Society’s Chairman daughter Code Warrior, who is among the final three contenders in the Female Sprinter category.

Code Warrior accounted for a pair of Graded victories in 2018, the Hendrie Stakes (G3) on June 10 and the Seaway Stakes (G3) in late August. In both races she defeated fellow finalist Moonlit Promise. Code Warrior is the only 2018 multiple Graded winner among her competitors for the trophy.

The well-traveled Code Warrior began her career with three consecutive victories at Golden Gate Fields in Northern California, including the Golden Nugget Stakes over males and the Golden Gate Debutante. Her first loss came in the Santa Ynez Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita in which she finished a game second in her 3-year-old debut.

As a 4-year-old she took well to the Woodbine all-weather course winning the 2017 Hendrie Stakes (G3).

She kicked off her 2018 campaign with a 1 1/4-length tally in the Abundantia Stakes over the Gulfstream Park turf course.

Sold by Shannondoe Farm at the 2014 Keeneland January sale, Code Warrior has won a total of six blacktype Stakes, placed in five more and earned $410,315. She would be the second Sovereign Award champion for her sire, Society’s Chairman, after 2016 3-Year-Old Female and Horse of the Year Caren.

The winners of the 12 horse categories and five human categories will be announced at the 44th Annual Sovereign Awards Ceremony  Thursday, April 18, at Chateau Le Jardin in Woodbridge, Ontario. Finalists for Canada’s Horse of the Year Award are announced during the ceremony.
